Translate your menu

If your store sells in more than one language, translate the menu so each customer sees it in their own language. Translations are stored per menu, so every menu has its own set.

1

Open Translations

Open Translations in the app navigation. You can also reach the same screen from the "..." of a menu on the Menus page with Translate, or from the Translate menu icon in the editor's left icon bar.

2

Choose the menu

Click "Translation" on the menu you want to translate.

3

Pick the language

Open the "..." button at the top right and pick the language you are translating into. The language you are currently editing is shown in bold.

4

Translate the texts

On the Texts tab, fill in the translation for each menu item title and description. The original text is the label above each field, so you always see what you are translating.

5

Switch to the Links tab to point items at the localised URL for that language.

6

Swap images per language

Switch to the Images tab if a language needs different images — for example a banner with text baked into it.

7

Save the translation

Click "Save", then repeat steps 3–6 for every other language.

8

Check the menu on your storefront

Open your storefront, switch the language and check the menu.

Good to know

  • The languages offered come from your store's languages in Shopify Settings → Languages. Publish a language there first and it appears in the picker.

  • Leave a field empty and the menu falls back to the original text for that item. You do not have to translate everything at once.

  • App Interface Language in Settings changes the language of the app's admin interface only. It does not affect what your customers see.

  • Translations are part of the menu data: they are included when you export a menu, and the Override translation option decides whether an import replaces them.
